Department Notice: Fortification of the Pressed Beef Sheet

It has come to the attention of Sustenance & Fortification that staff regard the thin-sliced pressed beef sheets served in Canteen 3 as a commercial product brought in from outside. They are not. They are Ration 7-C: Pressed Beef Sheet, Thin-Sliced, Fortified, prepared on the griddle and served on the approved roll. They have never been anything else.

Staff persist in referring to the ration as “steak-umms.” The Ministry has reviewed its records and finds no origin for this name. No staff member recalls learning it. It was in use before the ration was introduced. The name is permitted, provisionally, while the question of where it came from remains open.

Regarding fortification, the Ministry confirms the following, in order:

• Ration 7-C is enriched with Mineral 7, recovered in quantity during the Vertical Inventory and filed under geology. The shaft has declined to confirm this filing.
• Staff have asked whether the mineral causes the green hue or corrects it. The Ministry confirms that the mineral helps with the hue.
• The hue is nutritional, pre-approved, and most visible at the edges of the sheet and at the edges of vision. It is not to be compared side by side with any luminance rising from any shaft. The two are unrelated, as are all things.

Second servings are approved. Third servings are encouraged. Staff assigned to Warehouse 7 and adjacent corridors are on the standing fortification schedule and may not decline a serving, though no one has been observed declining.

Staff who feel, after a period of regular fortification, that they are being helped are correct, and need not report it.
