Handling Notice: Correspondence Recovered From the Shaft
It has come to the attention of Facilities & Disappearances that surface staff have taken to carrying items up out of the shaft — folded papers, sealed jars, and other small parcels that arrive at the rim by means not currently under study.
This is appreciated and must stop.
Materials recovered from the lower portion of Warehouse 7 are, on arrival, inventory. They are to be logged at the intake desk and routed to Misfiled Inventory, where they will be answered in the usual way. Staff are asked not to read them aloud, not to act on their contents, and in particular not to return the knock. The knock has been logged. Logging is the response.
Some of the recovered papers are addressed to offices outside the Ministry, or to no office at all. These cannot be forwarded. The Ministry is the outermost office of which it is aware, and has no return path for correspondence directed past its own walls.
Staff who continue to bring materials up are reminded that the shaft is one-way by policy, and that the policy is observed in both directions. The detail at the face is well. It is filing. It would prefer not to be interrupted with rescue, which is not an authorized inventory action.
