Object 29: Meal Card, Fully Punched

A Canteen 3 meal card, ten servings of Ration 7-C, all ten punched. The card was recovered from the intake desk, where it had been left face down, squared to the corner of the desk, weighted with nothing.

The holder’s name has been worn away by handling, though the card shows no other handling. The holder has not come forward. The holder has not been located. The serving staff recall the holder clearly and cannot describe them, which the staff report is a different thing from forgetting.

Nine punches are clean and round, consistent with the cafeteria punch. The tenth is discussed in the handling notes and nowhere else.

Fully punched cards entitle the holder to an eleventh serving, free of charge. The card is being sold rather than honoured.
