Description
The illustration depicts a fur-hatted Mongol horseman in a belted robe with a curved sabre, standing before felt tents, a tethered horse and a standard on the open plain. He holds a filled bun in both hands, garnished along its length.
The subject is in contact with a prepared ration that postdates his encampment entirely. The Bureau notes a period landscape and a non-period meal occupying the same frame. The two were recorded as found and not reconciled.
